The Sydney Schooners are an invitational rugby club founded in 1985 by Tim Martin and a collection of rugby enthusiasts, The Clubs initial tour was to the Hong Kong Invitational 10’s in 1987, and comprised of players from Sydney University, North’s, Manly, Colleagues, Kings Old Boys, Oakhill Old Boys, as well as a couple of country based players. Over the years the Club undertook tours back to the Hong Kong 10’s in 1988, 89, 90, 92, 93, 94 and 1997, and has had a representation at the Manila 10’s every year since 2000 to date. Over it’s history tours have also been undertaken to the rural NSW towns of Orange and Cowra for their 10-aside tournaments, as well as playing host to touring sides. The Club operates on an invitation basis and over the intervening years has been represented by players from a variety of Sydney clubs including Sydney University, Hawkesbury Ag College, Manly, North’s, Eastwood, Eastern Suburbs, Old Ignations, Colleagues, St Leos Old Boys, Kings Old Boys, Barker Old Boys, Oakhill Old Boys, Mosman, Parramatta, Gordon and Brothers (Brisbane), as well as players from rural NSW Clubs including Bathurst, Cowra, Goulburn and Young. Success has been intermittent over the years with the Club focussing on playing to their upmost ability, which in many cases has seen them contest the Cup sections of most tournaments. Despite this numerous pieces of silverware have been won including Plate Championships in the prestigious Hong Kong 10’s, the Manila 10’s, and at Cowra and Orange in domestic tournaments. In addition the Schooners have been runners-up no fewer than on six occasions in total, at both Cup and Plate level. Over the years the Schooners have earned a proud recognition amongst rugby communities around the world for their commitment to playing the game in a fair but competitive manner, often throwing down the gauntlet to teams containing a wealth of talent and big names, and by doing so have become an acknowledged outfit.

CMCC supports a radio station that is responsible for bringing fine music to the airwaves of Sydney. Playing mainly classical music with some programming set aside for some first rate jazz, blues and some alternate music, 2MBS FM is a community run station which CMCC is proud to support. |
